The peninsula of Rogoznica lies at the extreme south-eastern end of the Šibenik county. Well-indented, the Rogoznica bay is completely sheltered in the east, south and south-west by the Ražanj peninsula and by the islet of Smokvica, while its western coast is exposed to the open sea. Rogoznica is a safe harbour which has been known since the earliest days of seafaring along the Adriatic coast. This is also testified today by looking at the Rogoznica harbour, full of fishing boats, yachts and trawlers during the strong southerly wind - jugo, or the notherly wind - bora. The peninsula of Rogoznica has specific climatic features which greatly distinguish it from the surrounding Šibenik area. This is a meeting place of a gentle and warmer climate in the south-east and the harsher and rougher climate in the north and north - west. Due to relatively small cluodiness, there is little rain, and a lot of sunshine, which is ideal for tourism. The Gradina peninsula is also the site of the lake Zmajevo oko, with sea water. The lake is of irregular oval shape (150 by 70 meters), with an area of 5300 sq meters, and maximum depth of 15 meters. The lake is considered to be a natural bioreactor with intensive biochemical processes taking place there. Close by this geohydromorphological phenomenon, in the cove of Soline, there is a high-clas marina with 400 berths and numerous facilities.Man has lived in the area since prehistoric times. Many archeologists think that the Greek colony of Heraclea was located in the area. In and around Rogoznica there are 2500 beds in private accommodation and several private restaurants serving fish specialities made in the Rogoznica style. In the summer season the Tourist Association of Rogoznica organizes a series of events, with the traditional Rogoznica Fisherman Evening being the central event.
